Seasonal Instructors

Your child will receive a constant instructor for a season (spring, summer, fall, winter) whenever possible. Most children complete levels faster when taught by a seasonal instructor compared to regular swim lessons.

Due to instructor schedules and availability we are not able to accommodate instructor requests. If you reschedule your child to a different day or time midway through a season, please advise a lesson supervisor so that we can pass on your child’s progress to the next instructor.

Level Progression

When a child completes a level within the season they will receive a digital report card and badge and will remain with the same instructor until the end of the season. You can talk to the instructor at any time to discuss your child’s progress.

Levels

To find the right class for your child, it is important to know their level. If this is the child’s first experience with swim lessons or YMCA swim lessons, contact us to help determine their starting level. Once a child completes a session, it is important to bring in their swim lesson report card and check at the beginning of a session to make sure your child is in the correct level so they do not repeat unnecessarily.

Family Day

Halfway through the season we have family day. On family day, instructors will show you the progress your child has made and can answer any questions that you may have. Your attendance at this session is important to get as much information as possible regarding your child’s progress.

Lesson Supervisor

There will always be a lesson supervisor on deck during lessons to answer any questions or concerns.

Volunteers

We have many volunteers that help during lessons. They play an important role in assisting instructors with providing leadership and mentorship to participants.

Their uniforms are labelled as “volunteer” on the back and have a white Y on the front. Many of our volunteers are current students in lifeguarding courses, or are interested in becoming a lifeguard.
