YMCA of Okanagan Choose to Move

The YMCA of Okanagan is set to launch a new community program — called YMCA Choose to Move — providing more free opportunities for older adults in BC to be active and connect with a social network.

“Without the right guidance, being physically active, especially with a chronic condition, can be challenging and you might not know where to start,” says Kelowna Family Y Health and Fitness Manager, Serena Moser. “This program will provide the regular guidance needed to begin and maintain healthy activity, while also bringing people together in an encouraging, non-intimidating social setting.”
Those interested are encouraged to register for an upcoming information session to be held on May 16, 2018 at 11 a.m.

Choose to Move is a six-month physical activity program, based on the best research evidence, that helps break down barriers to physical inactivity. Working with a certified Activity Coach, participants design a personalized physical activity program based on their interests, goals and abilities. Participants are supported throughout the program with opportunities to connect with other Choose to Move participants through monthly motivational meetings and with their Activity Coach through regular progress check-ins.

The inaugural program will run from May 30 - November 28, 2018, at the Kelowna Family Y.  Choose to move is free to the community and includes a three-month YMCA membership.

Helping adults experience optimal health as they age is a top priority at the Y.
