The YMCA of Okanagan is inviting adults 50 years of age and older to attend their upcoming Seniors Health Assessment at the Kelowna Family YMCA and H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre this Fall.

Each assessment is 45-60 minutes in length and measures a variety of health indicators to help prevent the risk of disease.  Tests include blood pressure, cardiovascular endurance, balance, flexibility, agility and more.

“We want to make it easier for older adults to be active and social, while preventing chronic diseases” explains Alyssa Jackson, the YMCA’s Health and Fitness Supervisor. “These health assessments give seniors a starting point to base their exercise routines, introduce them to our supportive YMCA community, and give them information on programs and services that can help them reach their goals.”

Donna and Les Mash love to have fun, and plan to stay independent and healthy as long as possible. They wanted to be more active, and figured the YMCA’s Senior’s Health Assessment would be a great starting point.

“The assessment showed us a lot of areas where we were lacking and what we needed to work on,” Donna states. “We realized that our balance had pretty much disappeared.”

Since attending, the couple has integrated physical activity into their lifestyle. They became YMCA members and regularly attend Kelowna Family YMCA, which they have found to be very beneficial to their overall health. They also utilize a variety of services included with membership, from Health Coaching and Aquatic Fitness classes, to Mingle Mondays, the Healthy Hips & Knees program and more.

Registration is required and space is limited. To reserve your spot call 250-491-9622 ext. 426 for health assessments at H2O, or 250-491-9622 ext 211 to test your health at Kelowna Family YMCA. Learn more about YMCA seniors’ programs at ymcaokanagan.ca
