The YMCA of Okanagan is inviting adults 50 years of age and older to attend their upcoming Seniors Health Assessment at the Kelowna Family YMCA on Friday, March 16.

This 45-minute, one-on-one assessment tests blood pressure, cardiovascular health, muscular strength, balance, agility and more.

“We do a comprehensive assessment to give seniors an idea of their physical and mental fitness,” says Serena Moser, YMCA Health and Fitness Manager. “We discuss what is working and provide them with areas of improvement to help them get started with physical activity or maintain their current habits. Maintaining cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength allows us to be independent and do the activities we love for longer.”

Doris MacNaughton has attended numerous Seniors Health Assessments since joining the Y four years ago and has found it extremely beneficial in obtaining a baseline for her level of fitness.

“The assessments were good and well organized,” states MacNaughton. “I think it is an awesome thing to be a part of. The staff are absolutely awesome. Everyone is there to help when you need them.”

“There has been a few trying times in the past few years, and the Y has been a soft place to fall. I am so glad that I am a part of that big family.”

MacNaughton has since joined bootcamp three times a week, attends yoga classes and frequents the walking track. She looks forward to her yearly assessments, so she can see her continued progress.

Registration is required, and space is limited. To reserve your spot for this health assessment call 250-491-9622 ext. 211.
