  • Registration Now Open for New YMCA Child Care Centre in Penticton

    The YMCA of Okanagan will be expanding its child care services into the Penticton community in Spring 2019, with a new multi-age child care centre at the Queen’s Park Elementary School. The facility, which opens March 4, 2019, will offer 59 new spaces for children aged 6 weeks to 12 years, including infant/toddler, 3-5 years, preschool, out of school care, as well as camps for 5- to 12-year-olds.

  • YMCA invites older adults to attend FREE health assessments

    Serena Moser, Health and Fitness Manager at the Kelowna Family YMCA with Marg, one of the Health Assessment participants. During the free Health Assessments staff and volunteers conduct 45-minute, one-on-one evaluations, testing blood pressure, cardiovascular health, muscular strength, balance, agility and more.

  • Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign makes HUGE impact

    Local Tim Hortons locations raised over $32,349 from their Smile Cookie Campaign for the YMCA of Okanagan’s Healthy Snacks Program. These funds will help the Y serve nutritious snacks to all children in their care, including the 1 in 4 children whose families struggle to afford any snacks at all

  • YMCA of Okanagan Brings Mental Wellness Programs to West Kelowna and Penticton to Help Young People with Anxiety in BC

     The YMCA of Okanagan is expanding its Mental Wellness program offering to West Kelowna and Penticton helping young adults manage stress and anxiety issues. These free programs, offered to those between 13-30 years, will explore coping strategies and management tools in a supportive and accepting environment.

    RE/MAX Kelowna Owner/Managing Broker Peter Kirk and RE/MAX Realtors present a $5,000 cheque to the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign

  • Developing a love of the game at a young age

    Children participating in the Jr. NBA program, which is offered by the YMCA of Okanagan, in partnership with NBA Canada. This 12-week programs introduce children ages 5-7 to basketball in a fun, active and healthy learning environment.  YMCA Financial Assistance is available to any individual, family or child who is unable to participate due to financial circumstances. 

  • New lease on life after incredible weight loss

    Since beginning his fitness journey in April 2017, Austin Nicholls successfully lost 70 pounds by frequenting the Y-operated H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre. Thanks to YMCA Financial Assistance, he was able to become a YMCA of Okanagan member. 

  • Adopting healthier habits can prevent chronic illness

    Hospitalization in late 2017 left Trish Boileau with difficulty even getting out of bed, she learned firsthand the benefits physical activity can have. Since pursuing a healthier, more active lifestyle, Trish’s balance has improved, muscles have limbered up and she experiences much less pain from her arthritis. 

  • Swim lessons can prevent accidental drownings

    Kolton Johnson became water safe this summer after taking swim lessons with his instructor, Robert Goldberg. Swim lessons are included in every child membership, because the YMCA believes it is critical for everyone to learn about water safety and take preventative measures when near water. This is just one of the many ways the Y is working to drown-proof the Okanagan.
